The East Texas Charter School opened in the fall of 1999. ETCHS is an independent school district that reports directly to the Texas Education Agency. The school owns and operates its facilities at 2402 Alpine Road. ETCS is not a disciplinary alternative school. The mission of ETCS is to help students discover who they are and who they can become. Education is stressed, but helping students build self-esteem, deal with stress, anger management, and drug prevention are all part of the school program. ETCS does not discriminate in admission based on gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic, or athletic ability, or the district the child would otherwise attend.
All teachers are certified in the state of Texas. Teachers are also "Highly Qualified" as defined under the No Child Left Behind Act. 2. Academic Test Scores - 2003 - 2007

ETCS is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency. ETCS met federal standards for adequate yearly progress based on Reading and Math scores.

Teachers are paid $3,000-5,000 above state base.

Courses are available in the areas of: English, Social Studies, Science, Math, Speech, Health, Physical Education, Technology, and Home Economics. Students may choose to participate in the Diversified Career Preparation program. This program is a work cooperative training program that allows the student to work an average of 15 hours per week(paid) or 10 hours per week (non paid). Students may gain local credits toward degree completion through community service projects.
