9. Special Needs Programs
The district’s academic program offers a well-balanced aligned curriculum for grades Head Start and Pre K through 12, specifically designed to meet the learning needs of all students. Among the programs offered are Special Education, English as a second language (ESL), Balanced Literacy Program, Honors – Gifted/Talented, Career & Technology Education, Tech-Prep courses, content mastery assistance, Homebound Education Program, Literacy Groups, Reading Recovery, dyslexia, crisis intervention, safe and drug- free schools, section 504, and migrant education.

Ninth Grade Initiative and the Kick Off Student Mentoring Program are designed to assist incoming freshman in transition from Jr. High.
IDEA-Innovative Devices for Educational Assistance- use of Apple Products, Nano, IPOD, and ITouch give the student the diversity needed to infuse HISD classrooms with student PLD's.
HISD has distance learning. With Kilgore College and TSTC in Marshall, students can earn both high school and college credit for classes. Courses are offered during the school day on our campus via interactive TV through Kilgore College and TSTC.
Extensive staff development is provided. The district participates in the University of Texas Dana Center Partnership for Teaching Excellence which provides staff development to all K-12 Math and Science teachers.
