Longview ISD is accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

4. National Recognition

Hudson PEP School is a Texas School of Excellence and has been nominated as a National School of Excellence-Blue Ribbon School in the No Child Left Behind Program of the Department of Education. The district is recognized by School/Match as being in the top 15 percent in the nation, selected by School/Match for the 2002 11th Annual "What Parents Want" Award. Longview High School is the home of the 2004 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year, art teacher Ellen Herbert. Herbert continues to travel extensively representing LISD and Texas.

9. Special Needs Programs

LISD offers comprehensive programs in special education, character education, and in substance abuse prevention. The district houses the Regional Day School for the Deaf, a unique program for hearing-impaired children.

10. Special Focus Areas

Longview ISD offers a comprehensive curriculum, including specialty courses like Broadcast Journalism, Orchestra, JROTC, American Sign Language, Sculpture, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, and a state-of-the-art Career Technology curriculum. An extensive Advanced Placement curriculum is supported by Pre-AP courses at all middle schools. An enriched curriculum is offered to students of average and above-average ability at Hudson PEP magnet school. Foster Middle School houses a magnet program for gifted and talented students.

LISD has five new magnet schools funded by a grant from the U.S. Education Department. G.K. Foster Montessori Magnet School is designed for Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students. The remaining four schools have a grade range from 1-8 and are International Baccalaurete Candidate schools. The IB curriculum teaches students to be internationally minded and includes Spanish instruction. The IB schools have outdoor classrooms, the latest technology and upgraded fine arts programs. Students in the attendance zones participate in all special programs. Students outside the attendance zones are able to attend the school based on an application and random computerized lottery system. No testing is required and transportation is provided.
