The Workforce and Major Employers

Texas continues to surpass national economic growth and Longview outpaces Texas with new and expanded businesses in every sector.  This is propelled by the manufacturing, mining and health care employers.

Manufacturing in Longview is very diverse with chemicals (Eastman and Flint-Hills), electronics (General Dynamics and Alcatel-Lucent), foundries (Southwest Steel and Crosby-Lebus), automotive (Dana, Stemco and Capacity of Texas), rail car (Trinity Industries), plastics (Genpak and Exopack), HVAC (AAON Coil and MicroMetl), machine shops (R&H and East Texas Machine Works) and more.

Distribution centers in Longview have increased with a major expansion of the Neiman Marcus National Service Center and the the new 360,000 SF SYSCO Foods of East Texas facility.  Convergys Corporation located a major new customer care center and employ over 500.  Existing customer service centers SITEL and TCIM have recently expanded.  Software developers Tegron and Cubix continue to provide services nationwide from Longview.

Longview is home to a diversity of businesses and is known for its manufacturing workforce!

A 2008 study by The Pathfinders found there are 46,100 people underemployed in the region. This valuable resource and the work ethic of the people of the region, provide a unique opportunity for business growth.  People enjoy living in the Longview region and do not want to leave.  Skilled labor has been the key to successful growth and employers find many, many people who want to use the skills they have, improve upon them and learn new ones.

The workforce of the region is eager to develop new opportunities and skills needed in today’s global economy. LeTourneau, Inc., Trinity Industries, and Bemis Custom Products praise the "can-do" attitude of Longview workers.
