Longview to conduct Amphitheater feasibility study

(Longview, TX) Longview Economic Development Corporation, in conjunction with City of Longview staff, is researching the feasibility of an outdoor amphitheater along the Interstate 20 corridor to serve as a concert and entertainment venue for the East Texas area. A consulting firm has been hired to study the potential viability of such a project, including market demand, site considerations, as well as financial and funding analysis.

According to Mayor Andy Mack, “I am excited that an amphitheater is being considered for a possible project because if feasible I think it could provide an entertainment venue not currently available in Longview or the greater East Texas area. The project could also serve as a landmark-worthy development as part of our continued commitment to enhance the Interstate 20 corridor.”

The Longview Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in 2015, identified a desire to develop additional entertainment opportunities, including expanding and supporting arts and entertainment venues, especially those that cater to young adults. The Longview Comprehensive Plan encouraged studying the feasibility of additional convention, event, or entertainment venues. In addition, the plan encourages the redevelopment of Interstate 20.

At this time, the amphitheater project is only being considered for feasibility. There is currently no funding identified for the construction of a potential amphitheater project. If the project were to move forward, it is likely that it would be a public private partnership that would involve a major fundraising campaign to raise private and corporate dollars to help fund construction and on-going operation.
